Some years ago Mr John Tyler of California published a book entitled " How to Make An English Style Bracket Clock ". This book described in great detail and with many photographs, the manufacture of a break-arch style bracket clock. In 1991 the book was republished , later a list of modifications were listed by a Dutch clock club.

A study of the book showed that Mr Tyler has a very well equipped workshop, My own equipment consists of a Myford Series Seven lathe equipped with a vertical slide and machining vice, a small drilling machine, a home made wheel cutting spindle and pinion milling fixture plus a range of hand tools possessed by the model engineer. It was clear that to produce this clock on my equipment and to include the modifications described by the Dutch clock club some modifications and simplification of Mr Tyler's design would be required.

Two versions of this clock will be described  i.e. a simple timepiece and a striking clock, due to my modifications these clocks use two less cutters than Mr Tyler's

Hello Ian.  An M.E reader has pointed out misprints in the M.E. series .

Page. 1. of the manual. The position of the  cutout on the front plate is shown out of position. The dimension of the cut out from the left hand side of the plate should be 1.700 and not 1.437 as shown  and the distance from the top of the plate should be 1.312 and not 1.562 as shown.

Page. 17  The distance for the motion work clutch on the centre arbor should be approximately 0.210" not 0.325" as shown.

Page. 24 of the manual. The dimension of the Detent Arbor from the top of the plate should be 1.650

I have checked these later dimensions against my original hand drawings and the clock itself and can confirm that they are correct.

Will you kindly forward this E-mail to those who have already purchased the manual.

Regards.

 John Parslow.
