JOSEPH MERLIN BAND CLOCK by J. G. WRIGHT Wheels to be crossed out / Pinions supplied on stubs to be cut off and fitted to arbor |
This most unusual and complicated clock is not for the
in-experienced clockmaker. The construction includes the machining of a worm
of 8 threads per inch, and the usual dial is replaced by rotating bands. These
are rolled from brass strip. However full details are supplied by the author
for all this work and it is because the description is so good that I am
republishing this book. Not only is the actual construction of the clock fully
described but also the making of the special tools and jigs required. A
description of the bending rolls needed for making the bands is given together
with setting up the lathe for wheelcutting. This workshop manual is a
comprehensive description on how to make a most interesting clock.
