FOR AN 8 DAY LONGCASE CLOCK by ALAN TIMMINS Wheels to be crossed out / Pinions supplied on stubs to be cut off and fitted to arbor, 1/2/3 or 4 pinions on one stub PHOTO Cutters Module 0.85, 0.8, 0.75 |
As a result of interest shown by friends, I decided to describe and photograph the making of a typical Longcase movement made in about 1790, which came into my workshop for restoration. I shall describe and clearly illustrate every stage of the project so that anybody with a reasonable knowledge of engineering, and a workshop equipped with the usual range of hand tools, a small lathe, a drilling machine and possibly either horizontal or vertical milling machine, or the accessories to carry out this on a lathe, will be able to complete the project without to much difficulty.
